Athletic Greens vs Opti Greens

Tuesday 19th March 2024

In 2009, two products emerged designed to offer a hefty dose of nutrients commonly found in green vegetables.

These products were early arrivals in what would become a massive industry, the health and fitness supplements or “nutraceuticals” industry.

Since then, Athletic Greens and Opti Greens 50 have both risen to places of prominence within their quite similar niches in the health and nutrition supplement market.

Both offer a great solution for those looking to optimize their intake of vital nutrients. But there are some important differences between them. If you have specific fitness goals, health issues, or other specific concerns, one of these two products is likely to be better suited to your needs than the other.

Here, I’ll help you sort out the differences between these two popular products and pick a winner.

What is Opti Greens 50?

Opti Greens 50 by first phorm

Opti Greens is a product of 1st Phorm greens and is designed specifically to boost the immune system. That’s something everyone can get behind, especially with today’s elevated health concerns. Opti Greens contains 50 active ingredients including prebiotics, organic grasses, probiotics, healthy enzymes, and a mix of superfoods and superfood extracts.

1st Phorm is an extremely popular brand with dozens of popular products, the vast majority of which have earned a sterling reputation as top-quality supplements. Like its primary competitor, Athletic Greens, the exact ratios of the many ingredients in Opti Greens are protected as a proprietary blend.

That means, like the KFC’s secret recipe, we might know what’s in it, but we’ll probably never know how much of each and how they are pre-treated.

That’s good news for 1st Phorm greens because it means their competition is unlikely to duplicate their success. But it’s a bit of a drag for the consumer who would like to know exactly what they are getting.

Fortunately, they have been the subject of heavy customer reviewing, and the verdict is pretty danged good. More than 8,000 satisfied customers have posted glowing reviews of the product. Even better still, Opti Greens is less expensive than Athletic Greens.

One thing I will say that most reviewers won’t is that the “grassy” flavor of Opti Greens is actually a good thing. While most people list this as a drawback, I believe it’s the best evidence you’re going to get that the ingredients of Opti Greens are what they claim.

You can be reasonably sure that you’re getting a product with real leafy-green-derived goodness in it.

The Benefits of Opti Greens 50

This product appears to target the gut in its effort to boost immunity, and that’s smart. The gut is not only the first line of defense against pathogens- but your gut flora control systemic immune responses.

It also helps us to properly digest our food, which is key to good health.

What is Athletic Greens?

Athletic Greens is one of the best-known products of its kind anywhere. After all, if you’re a fitness bro, and you’re looking at the two of them on the same shelf, we all know what you’re going to pick.

Like Opti Greens 50, Athletic Greens is chock full of leafy green goodness. The product was named the official supplement of the US cycling team in 2019, and it’s had a load of celebrity endorsements.

Athletic Greens has an impressive 75 ingredients. On the surface, that might make it seem like the superior product, but don’t rush to judgment. Among these 75 ingredients are digestive enzymes, whole food super-duper greens, probiotics, and adaptogens… whatever those are.

The one thing to keep in mind is, when it comes to lists of ingredients, more is not necessarily better. It could be that the one ingredient you want most is only barely represented, while others fill out the package. Unfortunately, we’ll never know what the ingredient ratios are, because of proprietary protections.

Damn you, US Patent law!!!

The Benefits of Athletic Greens

The longer list of ingredients increases the odds that you’re getting complete nutrition. Athletic Greens is fully vegan-friendly, nut-free, and sugar-free. It tastes better, according to most reviews, and it’s popular with celebrities… and they are all geniuses, clearly.

How Are These Products Different?

The two major differences between these are the flavor and the price. By most accounts, Athletic Greens is better tasting. Of the many reviewers who make note of this, a lot of them list it as a positive.

This is not necessarily a good thing. Although it is possible to achieve a sweet or semi-sweet flavor using certain mixtures of specific leafy greens, it would almost certainly require an abundance of one or two specific types of greens. This would mean that the many, many other listed ingredients are not well represented in the package.

It is also possible that Athletic Greens could contain something like organic maple syrup or organic honey. Neither of these is sugar, so you could say that it’s truly sugar-free, and they do.

Ingredients like those do have many health benefits, but I do not believe fitness nerds want to be eating them. Of course, it must be said that this is just speculation. I do not know, nor do I claim that Athletic Greens contains maple syrup or honey.

Just sayin’… it might. As mentioned, the noticeable “grassy” flavor of Opti Greens 50 gives you confidence that you’re really getting greens.

Finally, Athletic Greens is about $3.23 more expensive per serving. That’s a big difference. That’s not per-package, it’s per serving. That’s more than enough to bust a tight budget.

How Are These Products Similar?

Both of these products target immune function primarily by offering benefits to digestive health. This is a good thing, and it shows that both producers were way ahead of their time.

Back in 2009, the gut-biome health craze was only just starting. Much of the most compelling evidence of the many benefits of healthy gut flora were not yet public or were sparsely published.

Both Opti Greens 50 and Athletic Greens have a long list of ingredients. When it comes to complete nutrition, that’s right on target. Both give users a good chance of getting all of their vital nutrients. Although we don’t know exactly how much of what is in each blend.

Either one is a good choice for performance athletes or fitness aficionados who want to be sure they are getting complete nutrition. Both blends are keto-friendly, non-GMO (probably), sugar-free, and nut-free.

Fortunately, these two products are different enough that we can make some clear distinctions about which is better for different use-cases.

What’s Better About Opti Greens 50?

We don’t know what’s in either product with 100% certainty. However, the “grassy” flavor of Opti Greens 50 inspires more confidence than the sweet undertones of Athletic Greens.

Because it has fewer ingredients, there is a better chance that the most important ones (whatever they may be) populate the package more densely.

At the end of the day, if you could only eat one of these for the rest of your life, you’ve got a better chance at reasonably good health with Opti Greens, in my humble opinion.

Then, of course, there’s the price comparison. Opti Greens is by far the more affordable selection. If you’re working within a limited budget, choosing Opti Greens could leave room for the other things you need in your diet- like protein. Maybe you’ve heard of it.

So, it’s no wonder celebs are so eager to endorse Athletic Greens. They can flippin’ afford it.

What’s Better About Athletic Greens?

Athletic Greens does come with some distinct benefits, chiefly among them – nicer flavor. Yes, I know, I said that was bad, but wait. There is a clear benefit to making healthy things taste better, chiefly, you’ll eat them. So the clear benefit of Athletic Greens over Opti Greens is, you’re more likely to actually want to eat it.

Another advantage of Athletic Greens is the wide range of ingredients. This could be a bad thing if the blend isn’t on point. But it also helps to guarantee that you will get all of your vital nutrients. Therefore, it’s good nutritional insurance for serious athletes.

Yet another clear benefit of Athletic Greens is they make specific claims about being free of certain known irritants. Namely, sugar, glutens, GMOs, and nuts.

If you have an allergy to any of these things, or if you just think they are icky, you can take Athletic Greens with confidence knowing it absolutely will not give you cooties.

Finally, with Athletic Greens, there’s a lot of legal pressure for them to not botch the formula. With all those celebrity endorsements, official whatsits of the international thingamadochies, a lot of wealthy heads would roll if the company got sued for false advertising.

Who Should Get Opti Greens 50?

At the end of the day, Opti Greens 50 just seems to be more serious about optimal nutrition than the competition. The fact that they don’t sweeten the blend tells you that they respect their customer base

. In my opinion, those who want measurable immune response improvements, better digestive function, and the best insurance of optimal nutrition should choose this product.

It is also more nicely priced. In the performance supplements game, that could mean it’s of inferior quality- or it could mean there’s less nonsense in it. Based on the flavor alone, my guess is that there’s less filler in Opti Greens 50. Therefore, this product is for anyone who wants a well-rounded diet.

Who Should Get Athletic Greens?

I would recommend Athletic Greens for someone who does intensive workouts three times a week or more. I would also recommend it to performance athletes. In particular, I would recommend it to performance athletes who make their livings in competitive sport.

The reason for this is the better flavor will make it less of a drain on your willpower. Because such people must have very high self-control, there’s no reason to tax their executive function even further by making them eat grassy powder.

I would also recommend it to those who make a living in sports since the higher price of the product can be listed as a tax write-off. What’s more, if there is anything sugar-like in it, regular heavy workouts are likely to negate their effects.

I also recommend it to anyone with certain food allergies. They have the guarantee of the company that they will not be getting nuts, gluten, or sugar. For these customers, it could be a matter of life or death, so the choice is fairly clear.
